The
Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) celebrated its second birthday on Sunday dated
26/3/2006 with a vow to act as a catalyst in laying a strong foundation for the
economic development of
Qatar
’s private sector.
A grand function
was held at the Diplomatic Club for the anniversary celebrations which was attended
among others by Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy & Industry
HE Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Minister of Economy and Commerce HE Sheikh Mohamed
Bin Ahmed Bin Jassim Al-Thani, Minister of Finance HE Yousef Hussein Kamal, The
Minister of Justice, Minister of Agriculture and Municipal Affairs, and a number
of senior in charge of various ministries and state bodies.
In his message,
Sheikh Faisal said, QBA’s objective was to build economic prosperity “vision by
vision and piece by piece”.
“We strive to create
a synergistic environment where businesses, government, residents and other stakeholders
thrive through collaboration and co-operation. The vision of QBA is to be the catalyst
for excellence in commerce through exceptional community relationships to enrich
the quality of
Qatar
’s economic and civic wealth and to promote global competitiveness of our country,”
he said.
As a unified voice
for businesses, Sheikh Faisal pointed out that QBA “accomplishes collectively what
no individual business could do alone.”
Al Fardan said that
the private sector would play an even greater role in
Qatar
’s economic development in the future.
“QBA will lead that
initiative. We have the ability to lead the private sector to actively participate
in
Qatar
’s economic development,” he said.
Al Fardan pointed
out that QBA was formed under the directive of HE the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa
Al-Thani. “It represents HE the Emir’s vision about the role the private sector
ought to play in
Qatar
’s development,” he said.
“We have made good
progress in our efforts in the last two years. And we look forward to many more
active and fruitful years of QBA activities of the welfare of our nation,” Al Fardan
said.
QBA Secretary General
Mr. Issa Abu Issa said the Association’s vision was to act as catalyst for the promotion
of diversified investment flows, modern entrepreneurial spirit and corporate development
in
Qatar
.
QBA, he said, was
a private sector initiative dedicated to serve the interests and advancement of
the sector at large.
“Our mission is
to support and enhance the private sector’s role in the economy” he said.
Issa said QBA aimed
to enrich the network of co-operative exchanges and business partnerships with the
whole world. “This venue is focused on long-term commitment in order to promote
Qatar
’s private sector message to facilitate trade and investment and to increase foreign
confidence in the Qatari market and its opportunities of economic growth.”
He said QBA endeavoured
to increase the public-private partnership and ensure the process of developing
the private sector meets the strategic vision of HE the Emir.
“Hand in hand with
the government we aim to be a major vehicle, builder and advocate for a thriving
economic climate in
Qatar
,” Issa added.
