Mr. Hussain Ebrahim Alfardan was born in a pearl merchant family in 1933. At the tender age of 21, he established his first business viz Alfardan Jewellery Est. For the last 50 years he has managed Qatar’s most reputed business house viz. Alfardan Group which is known for the highest quality of products and service and is involved in trading of Jewellery, Watches Automobiles, Development of real estate as well as money exchange and investments.

He has a large collection of Natural Gulf Pearls and is regarded as one of the experts in natural pearls in the world. His contribution in the development of Qatar and the GCC is recognized by one and all. He was the main force behind establishing Qatar’s first private bank, The Commercial Bank of Qatar and was one of the founder members of Investcorp and the United Development Company.

Presently he is the Chairman of the Alfardan Group Holding Company and the United Development Co. He is also Vice Chairman of Gulf Publishing & Printing Organization, Managing Director since inception of The Commercial Bank of Qatar as well as a Member of the Board for Qatar Insurance Co and Investcorp, Bahrain.

The Alfardan have been renowned as one of the Arabian Gulfs leading merchant families for over several hundred years. The foundation of the family’s fortunes were laid towards the end of the 19th century by Al Haj Ibrahim Al Fardan, who established himself as a pearl trader, dealing in what was then the Gulf’s sole high valuable trading commodity.

The clear warm waters of the Arabian Gulf boast the finest pearls in the world, and the pearl beds off Qatar’s coast were know to be among the best in the region. But even so, success in the pearl trade demanded a keen appreciation of the importance of quality, and a deep knowledge of many different varieties of natural pearls which were found. Al Haj Ibrahim Alfardan’s passinon for pearls was so great, that he became acknowledge as one of the leading experts on pearls in the Gulf. This passion was passed on to Hussain Alfardan, who in today looked upon as one of the world’s experts on natural pearls. Attention to details and commitment to quality have therefore been central to the Alfardan’s business from the earliest days.

The creation of the cultured pearl and the outbreak of World War II had devastating effects and by the end of the war, the Alfardan’s fortune had been badly affected. However, undeterred and starting with little, Hussain Alfardan with forethought and vision, rebuilt the business on a scale unimaginable and incomparable to earlier days, and was helped later with this task by his sons Ali, Fahad and Omar. Today it is a major player not only in the Gulf region but also on the world stage and is ready to face new challenges in 21st century.

As a result of the reputation that Hussain Alfardan established on the concept of providing the finest quality at the lowest acceptable margines, Alfardan Jewellery has grown from being a local store to major retailer with several branches, Alfardan still retains its links with the past by offering its own exclusive range specially created for a distinguished and discerning clientele, with each piece bearing the distinctive Alfardan impress.

Alfardan Jewellery were the first to stage a Jewellery and Watches Exhibition in the region, in which the world’s finest watchmakers and international jewellers participate. It is looked upon as a special occasion where they can exhibit their latest creation and attracts thousands of visitors, not only from Qatar but also from the Gulf States. All watch brands featured in this catalogue are solely represented by Alfardan in Qatar.

With their continued commitment to provide only the “best”, Alfardan’s launched their refurbished and luxuriously appointed flagship showroom located in the Alfardan Centre during the year 2004. The showroom is currently the largest in the Middle East and accommodates watches and jewellery to centre for every taste. Another exciting development during 2004 saw the laying of the foundations for the Alfardan Twin Tower project located at West Bay and due to be completed by November 2006 in celebration of Alfardan Jewellery’s Fiftieth Anniversary.
