Qatari Businessmen
Association (QBA) has welcomed the visit of HE Mr. Naci Saribas,
Turkish Ambassador to Qatar, to QBA premises on March 31, 2005.
The ambassador held a meeting with Mr. Bassam Massouh, General
Manager of QBA, aiming to discuss business opportunities and
cooperation between the two countries.
During
the meeting,the Turkish Ambassador declared his appreciation of the
strategic vision set
by HH the Emir of Qatar. He also appreciated the pioneer role
QBA is playing to develop the private sector, to create
promising business opportunities and to attract foreign direct
investment for several projects.

Special Luncheon for US Assistant Secretary of Commerce |

Qatari Businessmen Association
(QBA) held a business lunch with Mr. William H. Lash III,
Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Market Access and
Compliance, International Trade Administration at the US
Department of Commerce, at Doha Sheraton on March 31, 2005. The
meeting was attended by Mr. Issa Abu Issa, QBA Secretary
General, and members of QBA Mr. Khaled A. Al Mannai and Mr.
Hamad A. Al Kawary together with Mr. Bassam Massouh,General Manager of QBA. The event encompassed discussions on the
expected Qatari-US FTA and its impact on the private sector and economic
development of Qatar.

Special Delegation from the Federation of Arab Businessmen |

Qatari Businessmen
Association (QBA) has hosted a special delegation from the
Federation of Arab Businessmen (FAB) on Monday, March 28, 2005.
The delegation was headed by HE Mr. Hamdi Al Tabbaa, Chairman of
FAB and Jordanian Businessmen Association and former Minister of
Industry and Trade, together with HE Mr. Thabet Taher, Secretary
General of FAB and former Minister of Energy and Mineral
Resources, HE Mr. Omar Al Amaad, Jordanian Ambassador to Qatar,
and Mr. Ali Youssef, General Manager of the Union. The reception
took place at QBA’s premises and initiated the signature of a
bi-business cooperation agreement, which aims at increasing the
Qatari-Jordanian business cooperation and integration
and promoting investment opportunities between the two
countries.
Prior to the reception, HE Sheikh
Mohamed Bin Ahmed Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Trade,
received at his office a special delegation from both QBA and
the visiting leaders of FAB. The meeting with the Minister of
Economy comprised different economic aspects such as increasing
the bi-lateral business relationships and encouraging more
investment flows between the two countries.
Earlier on March 27, 2005 QBA
executives received the Federation of Arab Businessmen (FAB) at
Doha International airport, and organized a special dinner for
the visiting delegation at Mr. Issa Abdul Salam Abu Issa’s
house, Secretary General of QBA.

Visit of Italian Ambassador |

Qatari Businessmen
Association (QBA) has embraced the visit of HE Mr. Giuseppe
Buccino Grinaldi, Italian Ambassador to Qatar, to QBA premises
on Tuesday, March 22, 2005. The ambassador held a meeting with
Sheikh Faisal Bun Qasim Al Thani, Chairman of QBA and Mr. Bassam
Massouh, General Manager of QBA, aiming to discuss increasing
business opportunities and cooperation between the two
countries.
During the meeting, the Italian
Ambassador declared his appreciation of the strategic vision set
by HH the Emir of Qatar and appreciated the pioneer role QBA is
playing to develop the private sector, to create promising
business opportunities and to attract foreign direct investment
for several projects.

QBA Welcomes New Members |

Qatari Businessmen
Association’s held the eighth ordinary meeting of Board of
Directors at QBA’s premises on March 21, 2005, which was
attended by Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman, Mr.
Hussein Al Fardan, Deputy Chairman, Mr. Issa Abu Issa, Secretary
General, and board members Sheikh Nawaf Bin Nasser Al Thani,
Sheikh Khalid Bin Thani Al Thani and Mr. Omar Hamad Al Mana.
During the meeting, board members overviewed QBA’s achievements
for last year, set an active agenda for the current year and discussed
plans to expand the membership taskforce. In addition, the meeting
witnessed a review of the past year’s financial report together with the
approval of the provisional budget for the year 2005.

newly joined members to QBA who reached a total of eleven key
businessmen and investors in Qatar including Mr. Abdullah
Mohamed Al Mannai, Mr. Khalid Ahmed Al Mannai,Sheikh Abdullah
Bin Ahmed Al Thani, Mr. Sherida Al Kaabi, Mr. Nasser Rashed Al
Kaabi, Mr. Ibrahim
Mohamed Al Jaihda, Mr. Khalid M. Al Rabban, Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed H.
Al Neama, Mr. Abdul Alhamid Mustafawi, Mr. Maqbool Khalfan, and
Dr. Hamad Bin Abdul Aziz Al Kawari.
The General Members Assembly
began with a welcome speech by Sheikh Faisal Al Thani, in which
he expressed his appreciation to new members for joining QBA and
mentioned that the Association is currently accepting
applications for membership in order to accommodate more
business leaders and think tanks to better serve its main
objective of developing the role of private sector. He added
that QBA determines to maintain an intellectual harmonization
and interaction in between its members in order to increase the
participation of private sector in the country’s comprehensive
development arena.

Furthermore, Board Members
emphasized that they always support QBA’s new members to place
and discuss their perceptions and ideas regarding the future
activities of QBA. They also stressed on the importance of
strong participation by the new members in all the Association’s
mission tasks and events.
In the same time, new members
appreciated the welcome ceremony and enthusiastic atmosphere
they have witnessed and they declared their willingness to
complement QBA’s mission and objectives. They further suggested
some additional activities for the Association aiming to promote
its role in upgrading and developing the private sector
capabilities.
At the end of the meeting, all
members agreed on having similar, regular meetings and
supporting Qatari Businessmen Association in maintaining a
sustainable development of the role of the private sector within
the economic activities.
