SHK. ABDULLAH BIN AHMED AL THANI

 

After completing secondary education in Qatar, proceeded to UK for his Graduate & Post-Graduate studies in Political Economics & International Relations

Upon return, he had held the following key positions prior to reverting to private life in 2004 to concentrate full-time on his business interests: -

  • 1989-1994: Director, Department of Industrial Development, Ministry of

  •                       Energy & Industry

  • 1994-1998: Assistant Undersecretary: Ministry of Energy & Industry

  • 1994-1998: Qatar Government’s Representative, Gulf Organization for

  •                       Industrial Consultancy (GOIC)

  • 1994-1999:  Qatar Government Representative, Arab Shipbuilding & Repair

  •                       Yard (ASRY), Bahrain

  • 1995-1998:  Qatar Government’s Representative, Gulf Cooperation Council

  •                       (GCC) Patent Bureau

  • 1996-2003: Chairman, Qatar National Hotels 

  • 1998-2001:  Assistant Undersecretary (Civil Aviation) & Director General (Doha

  •                       International Airport), Ministry of Communication & Transport

  • 1999-2002: President, Qatar Golf Association

  • 2000-2003: Chairman, Qatar Tourism Authorit

  1. Private Sector

  • 1994-2002: Board Member, Qatar Flour Mills

  • 1997-2002: Board Member, Al Ahli Bank of Qatar

 

Since 1994 to date, he continues to hold offices of Deputy Chairman at Al Khaleej Insurance QSC, which is a Qatar Share Holding Company.  He is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of GTG & GTC, the family held business groups

 

Business Profile

 

As was with most indigenous companies, beginning of GTG over half a century ago was with Real Estate ownership, which over decades had been developed to include Residential & Commercial Properties and Agricultural Development.  Under brand identity of Le Mirage, its further expanded to embrace Hospitality Management to own and/or operate varying star class Hotels & Residences, while expanding the existing portfolio of high-end Villa & Apartment Complexes.   

 

Simultaneously, GTG also diversified its operation to become a multidisciplinary business outfit to be engaged in:

  • Travel & Tourism  

  • International franchised Restaurants

  • Aluminum Architecture & Cladding

  • Supply of Promotional/Gift items

  • Import & Distribution of Food products, both fresh & packaged

  • Manufactory of Furniture

  • Loss Evaluation

  

Recognizing world today as a ‘Global Village’; currently GTG is actively pursuing in formation of strategic alliances in selected specialized fields to be in sync with the country’s accelerated economic development process.
