QBA Meeting with Algerian Minister of Commerce H.E. Mr. Said Djellab and his companying delegation

The Qatari Businessmen Association held a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Said Djellab, Minister of Commerce of the Republic of Algeria and his accompanying delegation. From the Algerian side, the meeting was attended by Mrs. Wahiba Bahloul, Director General of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Khabzy Abdel Mejeed, Chairman of the Algerian-Indonesian Friendship Association, Mr. Tayeb Zitouni, Director General of the Algerian Company for Exhibitions and Exportation, as well as HE Mr. Abdelaziz Al-Sabaa, Ambassador of the Republic of Algeria to Qatar

From QBA, HE Sheikh Faisal Bin Qasim Al Thani, QBA Chairman headed the meeting, also Mr. Hussein Al Fardan, QBA First deputy attended along with QBA Members, Mr. Saud Al Mana, Mr. Khalid Al Mannai, Mr. Maqbool Habib Khalfan, Mr. Abdullah Al Kubaisi, Mr. Mohammed Althaf, Sheikh Khalid Bin Nawaf Bin Nasser Al Thani and Ms. Sarah Abdullah, QBA Deputy General Manager

At the beginning of the meeting, H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani welcomed the Minister and his accompanying delegation of businessmen and trade organizations. Sheikh Faisal confirmed his awareness of the importance of the Algerian market and the natural and economic resources of Algeria and talked about his own experience as an investor, focusing on the country’s natural potentials such as climate diversity and agricultural land, that could be very useful for mutual collaboration in the agricultural and tourism sectors; in addition to the skilled and specialized labor available in Algeria. He also pointed to the keenness of Qatari businessmen to discuss the means of cooperation and investment in Qatar and Algeria as long as this cooperation achieves the mutual benefit of the two parties.

For his part, the Minister expressed his happiness with this meeting, pointing out that such meetings confirm the strong brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries and called for the development of the Qatari-Algerian economic relations and increasing their growth rates to reach the level of the aspirations of the two countries. He added that the Algerian market is large and promising and has many potentials and investment opportunities in different sectors (such as mining, pharmaceuticals, tourism, industry, services and agriculture), which encourages the Qatari investor to establish business.

His excellency also added that the State of Algeria is the gateway of Africa for its important geographical location between the continents of Europe and Africa, and has excellent relations with all African and European countries, and the Qatari investor can benefit from these features

In this context, His Excellency Mr. Hussein Al-Fardan spoke about Qatar's keenness to develop its relations with Algeria for its diversified investment opportunities in many sectors such as agriculture, tourism and industry, especially the food industries

At the end of the meeting, Sheikh Faisal confirmed QBA’s interest in the Algerian market and its investment opportunities. He also pointed at the openness of the Qatari market to investments and partnership. The two sides agreed to activate the Qatari-Algerian Business Council, the council will aim at creating the right environment for investment and exploring the potential investments projects that could be of interests to both countries. Both sides exchanged souvenirs at the end of the meeting

It is worth mentioning that the trade exchange between the two countries reached QR 163 million in 2017 compared to QR 134 million in the previous year and a growth rate of 22%. Also There are about 115 Qatari-Algerian companies operating in the Qatari and Algerian markets.
